The Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas (KLD) held the first-ever “On Becoming Regals” orientation for students on August 21, 22, and 27, 2024. The three-day event aimed to familiarize the students with the institution’s culture, policies, and expectations.
The orientation kicked off with an introduction to “On Becoming Regals” and the KLD roadmap. Faculty members also provided a historical overview of Dasmariñas, highlighting its significant landmarks, services, and cultural events like the Paru-paro Festival.
Day 2 focused on character-building as KLD students. The sessions covered the KLD mission, vision, core values, and goals, as well as its organizational structure and student welfare programs. Additionally, students were introduced to the KLD Hymn and learned about the importance of Bayanihan Day and joining student organizations.
On the third day, the orientation delved into the college policies and guidelines, including registrar’s protocols on enrollment, retention, and attendance; health services; and the College Learning Commons (CLC). Students also gained valuable information on emergency preparedness, security, and safety protocols. Other topics covered included physical facilities, Gender and Development (GAD), and sports and wellness.
The Regals which represent the KLD family are associated with and resemble the Regal Fritillary (Speyeria idalia) which is a large, orange, and black butterfly that was once found commonly throughout the North America. It looks like a “Monarch Butterfly dipped in chocolate.” Following the distinct symbol and representation of the City of Dasmarinas, a butterfly, where the KLD is located, established and being nurtured, the KLD adopts the use of Regals which signifies the power of transformation and the incredible feats we can achieve when we trust ourselves as part of this humble College. Moreover, as part of the unique identity of the Regal butterfly, “we all have the ability to listen to our innate wisdom, guide ourselves through difficult times, and emerge better and stronger than before”. This is what KLD now and envisions to continue to uphold in the years to come.
Through the “On Becoming Regals” orientation, KLD sought to empower its students to embrace their roles as future leaders and responsible citizens of the City of Dasmariñas. By providing them with a solid foundation in the college’s culture and values, KLD hopes to foster a strong sense of community and academic excellence among its students.
