KLD holds 1st Dasmariñas Research Congress

The Kolehiyo ng Lungsod ng Dasmariñas (KLD) held its 1st Dasmariñas Research Congress on February 23, 2024.

With the theme, Securing a Sustainable Future for the Dasmarineños: The Role of Research Excellence in Advancing the City’s Knowledge-based Economy, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, research enthusiasts and students convened for the said research congress to showcase their innovative ideas and discoveries on specialized and interdisciplinary fields.

The congress is composed of ten (10) parallel sessions for both students and professionals. Their research works focused on specific themes, namely: a.) advancement in food, nutrition, and healthcare; b.) Dasmariñas tourism and cultural heritage and environmental governance and sustainable energy; c.) equitable and quality teaching and learning d.) human security and community resilience; e.) information systems, emerging tech and innovation; f.) mental health and physical wellbeing; and g.) sciences development and knowledge advancement.

Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, a UP Scientist and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension of University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), was the event’s keynote speaker. 

In his talk on the topic, “Accelerating Growth through One Research and Extension in Action” (AGORA), he shared with the participants the UPLB formula for impactful research.

During the plenary sessions, Dr. Maria Ana T. Quimbo, a UP Scientist and professor at the College of Public Affairs and Development at the UPLB, discussed “Future Skills: Shaping the Workforce and Learning in Higher Education.” Likewise, Dir. Emelita P. Bagsit, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology –CALABARZON, served as one of the plenary speakers and talked about the topic “The Role of Science and Technology on Sustainable Development.”

The event was also attended by Dr. Freddie B. Bulauan, Officer-in-Charge –Director at the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office (CHEDRO) IV-A. Similarly, through his virtual greetings, Dr. J. Prospero E. de Vera III, Secretary of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), expressed his support to the KLD and message of congratulations to all participants.

Through the leadership of Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias and support from Cong. Pidi Barzaga and Mayor Jenny Barzaga, the KLD community has vowed to continue empowering communities through research-driven programs, collaborations, and knowledge sharing anchored on the city’s onward-forward development principle.
