The Department of Psychology recently held its inspiring Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremonies, an event dedicated to formally recognizing the academic commitment and growing professional responsibilities of its junior and senior students. A crowd of 1,105 students participated in the rites, including 533 3rd-year students and 572 4th-year students, marking a major passage in their journey toward becoming practitioners in the field.
The aim of the pinning ceremonies is to affirm the students' dedication to their chosen profession and acknowledge their substantial academic progress. By receiving their pins, the students are recognized for their increasing competence and are reminded of the core values and weighty responsibilities they are preparing to uphold. This rite of passage seeks to instill confidence in the students as they transition into more advanced academic roles, particularly as the 4th-year students prepare for graduation and entry into professional practice or further studies.
Complementing the pinning, the Candle Lighting Ceremonies served as a powerful metaphor for dedication and service. The lit candles symbolize the illumination of knowledge, the spark of inspiration, and the commitment to bring light and understanding to the lives of future clients and communities. Together, the two ceremonies motivate the students to continue striving for excellence, dedication, and ethical practice as they move closer to professional life, highlighting their deep commitment to the field of psychology.
